Executive Committee date in Vienna

UEFA begins a hectic week of activity in Vienna with the latest meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee on Sunday and Monday.

The committee, chaired by UEFA President Michel Platini, gathers ahead of the XXXIX Ordinary UEFA Congress in the Austrian capital on Tuesday. Various elections will be a focal point on the agenda.

The committee will hear an update on preparations for UEFA EURO 2016 in France. At the recent meeting of the UEFA EURO 2016 steering committee in Lyon, Patrick Kanner, the French minister for cities, youth and sport, explained that the government had established four priorities for next summer's tournament:

• Ensure a very high standard of organisation.
• Make the tournament an event for the people, for everyone, everywhere.
• Use UEFA EURO 2016 to contribute to growth in France and the attractiveness of France as a country.
• Use the tournament to promote the values of sport.

For the first time, 24 sides will contest the UEFA European Championship when it takes place between 10 June and 10 July 2016 at ten venues in France – Bordeaux, Lens, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Paris, Saint-Denis, Saint-Etienne and Toulouse.

Looking further ahead, the committee will also be asked to confirm the competition format and draw criteria for the European qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia.

Various UEFA club and national team competition regulations have been submitted for approval, and the Executive Committee will also hear reports on the recent activities of the UEFA committees.

The Executive Committee meeting will be followed by a press conference attended by UEFA General Secretary Gianni Infantino, starting at approximately 12.30CET on Monday. The press conference will be streamed live on UEFA.org. The next meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee is scheduled for 29 and 30 June 2015 in Prague, Czech Republic, on the eve of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship final.

The XXXIX Ordinary UEFA Congress will take place on Tuesday at the Reed Exhibitions Messe in Vienna. The Congress, which is UEFA's supreme governing organ, meets annually and is attended by representatives from each of UEFA's 54 member associations. The event will start at 09.30CET and is scheduled to end at approximately 16.00CET. It will be followed by a press conference in the same location attended by Mr Platini and Mr Infantino.

The main items on the agenda for the Vienna Congress include the election for the UEFA Presidency and elections for the UEFA Executive Committee and FIFA Executive Committee, as well as the approval of the annual report of the UEFA President and UEFA Executive Committee and the report of the UEFA administration.

On the finance front, approval will be sought for the annual consolidated statement of accounts for 2013/14 and the budget for 2015/16.
