Romanian football is mourning the death of Dinamo București midfielder Patrick Ekeng.
Ekeng, 26, passed away after collapsing on the pitch during Friday night's Romanian First Division game between Dinamo and Viitorul. "We will always love you, Patrick!" read a Dinamo statement. "Dressed in the red-and-white shirt, he left for a better world where he will join so many glorious players who made history for our club before passing away."
The Romanian Football Federation (FRF) has decided to postpone fixtures across all levels that were due to be played this weekend. The Romanian Cup final between Dinamo and Cluj, which was scheduled for Tuesday, will now take place on 17 May.
Ekeng, a Cameroonian international, started his career with Canon Yaoundé in his homeland before going on to play for Le Mans, Rodez, Lausanne-Sport, Córdoba and Dinamo.
