Maccabi Tel-Aviv great Yehoshua Glazer, considered to be one of the greatest strikers in Israeli football history, has died at the age of 91.
Glazer won six league titles and six State Cups at Maccabi Tel-Aviv from 1945-63, and scored consistently – 139 goals in 166 league games. He was voted Israel's player of the decade in 1960, having found the net at an impressive rate for his national team too. His 18 goals in 35 Israel games included a hat-trick in a 5-1 friendly win against Turkey, and two in a 5-2 loss to Yugoslavia in the qualifying competition for the 1950 FIFA World Cup.
He played for Hapoel Kfar-Saba, Beitar Netanya and Beitar Jerusalem, before retiring in 1966. Long regarded as one of the finest players in the history of football in Israel, he died on Saturday – his 91st birthday.
