The Latvian Football Federation (LFF) has continued its UEFA HatTrick II programme by signing deals with councils in the Latvian cities of Daugavpils, Rezekne, Preili and Jūrmala, and donating new full-size artificial grass pitches to these cities' stadiums.

The announcement comes four months before the first football pitch sponsored by the HatTrick II programme is due to be opened at the new Riga Technical University football centre in September. The first wave of HatTrick funding in Latvia helped with the construction of a training centre for national youth teams in the country's capital city – a complex with two floodlit artificial pitches.

Meanwhile, the LFF has also announced that this year's Latvian youth championship will be called the O!Karte youth football league after a sponsorship deal was signed with Latvijas Mobilais Telefons, Latvia’s biggest mobile phone company.

The O!Karte league is a Latvian youth football championship that is being played in nine age groups, involving 6,170 players from 331 teams and more than 60 clubs from all over Latvia. The first of more than 3,000 matches scheduled were played in April, with the competition running until November.
