019 – Event features two Europe v Africa all-star Under-18 matches
The sixth edition of the UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup will be held in Barcelona, Spain, from 27 February to 1 March 2007. With a completely new format, the event will involve a two-legged match between all-star Under-18 teams representing Europe and Africa. Both matches will be played at FC Barcelona's Mini Estadi, with the first leg on 27 February at 18:30 and the second leg on 1 March at 11:00.
In parallel, a conference will bring together national youth team coaches from each of the 53 UEFA and 53 CAF member associations. This will be staged at the Princesa Sofía Gran Hotel in Barcelona from 26 February (opening at 17:00) to 1 March (closing at 10:00), with a focus on the development of elite youth players and on various current trends.
A pre-event press conference will be held at the Camp Nou. As the timing depends on FC Barcelona's first-team training schedule, details will be announced nearer the time.
The event happily falls in the year when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Media representatives wishing to attend the UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup are requested to apply for accreditation via e-mail: email@example.com with "Meridian Cup" in the subject header prior to Thursday 22 February midday.
