Match background Only this chapter

A keenly contested UEFA Europa Conference League Group D brings together second-placed Jablonec and third-placed Randers on Matchday 3.

• Jablonec have a win – 1-0 at home to CFR Cluj – and a defeat – 0-1 at AZ Alkmaar – to their name after two group games, while Randers have drawn their opening two encounters, 2-2 against AZ in Denmark and 1-1 in Romania.

Previous meetings
• While this is Randers' first UEFA encounter against opposition from the Czech Republic, Jablonec have fond memories of their one previous tie against a Danish club, a 3-2 second-leg win away to FC Copenhagen giving them an away-goals success in the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League third qualifying round after they had lost the home leg 0-1.

Form guide
• Third in the 2020/21 Czech Liga, 17 points adrift of champions Slavia, Jablonec thus qualified for a fourth successive season of European football, all under coach Petr Rada. They were well beaten in their UEFA Europa League third qualifying round tie by Celtic (2-4 h, 0-3 a) but made amends in the UEFA Europa Conference League play-offs against Žilina, storming through 8-1 on aggregate (5-1 h, 3-0 a).

• This is the club's second appearance in a European group stage, the first having come in the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League, when they finished bottom of a section including Dynamo Kyiv, Rennes and Astana with five points.

• Jablonec had failed to win in eight European home games (D4 L4) until their 5-1 victory over Žilina in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League play-off. The Matchday 1 defeat of CFR means they have now recorded two successive European home wins for the very first time.

• Winners of the Danish Cup for the first time in 15 years – and second in all – last season, when they beat SønderjyskE 4-0 in the final, Randers are back in UEFA competition for the first time since 2015/16 and making their debut in a European group stage.

• The Jutland club's 2021/22 European campaign started in the UEFA Europa League play-offs, where they were defeated by Galatasaray (1-1 h, 1-2 a) – a result that sent Thomas Thomasberg's side into the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage.

• Randers have won just one of their last six European away games (D2 L3) – against Sant Julià of Andorra in the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League first qualifying round first leg (1-0).

Links and trivia
• Randers are one of eight clubs making their debut appearance in a UEFA group stage this season; the others – one in each group – are Alashkert (Group A), Flora Tallinn (B), Bodø/Glimt (C), Union Berlin (E), Lincoln Red Imps (F), Mura (G) and Kairat (H).
