Match background Only this chapter

UEFA Europa League Group B leaders Salzburg visit bottom club Rosenborg looking to maintain their perfect start with a fourth successive victory while their hosts are seeking a first point after three straight defeats.

• The Austrian champions added a 3-1 home win over Celtic to an opening-night 3-2 success at RB Leipzig before overcoming their Norwegian counterparts 3-0 at home last time out. Rosenborg's first two games were a 0-1 defeat at Celtic and a 1-3 loss at home to Leipzig.

• Salzburg will be through if they draw and Celtic lose at home to Leipzig, or if they win and Celtic draw. Rosenborg will be out if they lose and Leipzig avoid defeat, or if Rosenborg draw and Leipzig win.

Previous meetings
• The clubs met for the first time on matchday three, a Munas Dabbur double sandwiching a Hannes Wolf strike. That was Salzburg's first UEFA competition encounter with a Norwegian club.

• Rosenborg's record against Austrian opposition is now W3 D1 L5, though at home they have a more favourable record of W2 L2. Their most recent tie against an Austrian club, in the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League play-offs against Austria Wien, ended with a pair of 2-1 defeats.

Highlights: Salzburg 3-0 Rosenborg

Form guide
Rosenborg
• A record 25th Norwegian title in 2017 earned Rosenborg a place in this season's UEFA Champions League qualifying phase. After going out to Celtic they won all four of their UEFA Europa League qualifiers against Cork City and Shkëndija to secure a second successive season in the group stage.

• Rosenborg finished third in their UEFA Europa League group last season – behind Zenit and Real Sociedad – and have yet to progress into the knockout phase in four attempts. Indeed every one of their last 12 European group stage participations across all competitions has been unsuccessful.

• The Trondheim club have lost just one of their five European home games this term (W3 D1), against Leipzig on matchday two, and have scored three goals in five of their last nine UEFA home fixtures, emerging victorious in each case. They have won only two of their ten UEFA Europa League group games on Norwegian soil, however, losing six.

Salzburg
• Champions of Austria for the fifth year running in 2017/18, Salzburg entered this season's UEFA Champions League in the third qualifying round, but their annual summer quest to reach the group stage ended in another near-miss as they surrendered a two-goal lead to lose out on away goals to Crvena zvezda in the play-offs (0-0 away, 2-2 home).

• Last season Salzburg enjoyed the most successful of their seven previous seasons in the UEFA Europa League proper, winning their group then eliminating Real Sociedad, Dortmund and Lazio before losing after extra time in the semi-final to Marseille.

• Until they went down 4-2 away to Lazio in the first leg of that 2017/18 quarter-final, Salzburg had gone 19 European games without defeat, ten of those on their travels (W5 D5). They are undefeated in their three continental away fixtures this term (W2 D1).

Munas Dabbur celebrates scoring against Rosenborg in Salzburg

Links and trivia
• Salzburg forward Fredrik Gulbrandsen is a Norwegian international. He scored for Molde in a 2-0 win against Rosenborg during his club's 2014 title-winning season, having also found the net against the Trondheim club for Lillestrøm three years earlier.

• Dabbur is the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League's top scorer with five goals, hitting two in each of Salzburg's last two group games.

• The first of Dabbur's two goals against Celtic on matchday two was Salzburg's 100th in the UEFA Europa League, group stage to final, a landmark previously reached by just two clubs – Villarreal and Athletic Club.

• Salzburg are competing in the UEFA Europa League proper for the eighth time – a record they share with Ajax and Sporting CP. This is the Austrian club's 46th match in the group stage – a competition record.

• Rosenborg are five points clear at the top the Norwegian Eliteserien table with two games to go. They will secure a 26th Norwegian title – and fourth in a row – with a win at Start on 11 November. They are also through to the Norwegian Cup final on 2 December against Strømsgodset, having defeated Start 2-1 in the semi-final on 1 November.

The coaches
• A defender who played for Go Ahead Eagles, Heracles, De Graafschap and AZ Alkmaar in his native Netherlands, Rini Coolen has over 20 years of coaching experience, albeit mostly as an assistant. Before taking over as Rosenborg's interim boss in July 2018 following the dismissal of Kåre Ingebrigtsen, his last head coach role had been a brief stint at the helm of the Aruba national team in 2015. He has also worked in Australia and Dubai.

• Previously Salzburg's youth team boss, Marco Rose stepped up to the senior helm after Óscar García left in June 2017, having led the club to victory in the 2016/17 UEFA Youth League. A defender with home-town club Leipzig, Hannover and Mainz, he has been on Salzburg's coaching staff since 2013 and oversaw the club's fifth successive Austrian Bundesliga title as well as a run to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals during his debut campaign in the top job.
