Coach Agustin Kola's claims that KF Tirana "were capable of winning everything" received a major credibility boost after his side came from behind to beat KS Dinamo Tirana 4-2 in the first round of league games in Albania this year.
Having gone in at the break 2-1 down, Tirana scored three goals without reply away to their capital rivals in Saturday's explosive opener to the spring campaign, having ended 2008 with a 6-2 mauling of KS Bylis. With Albanian president Bamir Topi and Tirana mayor Edi Rama both watching from the stands, champions Dinamo had gone ahead through a Jetmir Sefa header, and while league top scorer Migen Memelli levelled, Sebino Plaku's overhead kick put Dinamo back in front.
A title winner with both Tirana and Dinamo in the last two years, Nigerian defender Abraham Alechenwu crossed for Ansi Agolli to equalise on 58 minutes, and then provided the assist for Memelli to put his side ahead for the first time in the match. Tirana captain Devi Muka and Dinamo defender Julian Brahja were then dismissed, and the hosts' goalkeeper Elvis Kotorri followed them two minutes from time for a challenge on Memelli, allowing Daniel Xhafa to put the seal on a significant victory with a goal straight from a free-kick, with Dinamo captain Artion Poçi having been forced to go in goal.
Victory against Dinamo, combined with KS Vllaznia's 1-0 loss at KS Shkumbini, has left Kola's side just one point adrift of the league leaders, with Memelli in ominous form. Having scored five of Tirana's goals in their last two matches, he has taken his total to 12 for the seasons and is the nation's top scorer.
