KF Tirana have won their 14th Albanian Cup, beating capital rivals KS Dinamo Tirana 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Durres's Niko Dovana Stadium.
Former Dinamo goalkeeper Ilion Lika was the hero, saving three efforts in the shoot-out, after Tirana had clung on with ten men to take the game to penalties. "It was great to win," said Lika, who played the first eight seasons of his career with Dinamo. "We all played well, but I was happy I was able to help my team and celebrate our victory at the end."
Serbian striker Mladen Brkić opened the scoring for Dinamo, finishing from Igli Allmuça's pass after 30 minutes. Tirana soon regained their composure, and Croatian forward Pero Pejić passed up a couple of opportunities before leveling from close range six minutes into the second half. Both sides kept pushing but there were to be no further goals, with Tirana losing Tefik Osmani to a second yellow card in extra time.
