Xäzär Länkäran FK have won the third Azerbaijani Cup in their seven-year history, beating İnter Bakı PİK 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at the Tofiq Bakhramov Stadium in Baku.

Xäzär might have led after eight minutes but Winston Parks and Emeka Opara both failed to get a telling touch to Adrian Piţ's left-wing cross, yet they needed some smart work from Kamran Agayev to take the game into extra-time.

Costa Rica forward Parks then put Xäzär ahead two minutes into the first period, but Ģirts Karlsons' leveller before the break took the game to a shoot-out, where Nicolae Muşat converted the deciding penalty for Mircea Rednic's side.

"Our fans deserve the biggest of trophies," said the Shipbuilders' defender Elnur Allahverdiyev, whose side finished second to Neftçi PFK in the league. "We couldn't win the title this year, but got our hands on the cup today. Neftçi are champions but they didn't win a single match against us. Now we have to show a decent performance in the UEFA Europa League and go as far as we can."
