Belgium round-up: Anderlecht put Brugge under pressure

RSC Anderlecht kept the pressure on Club Brugge KV with a win against KSC Eendracht Aalst.

Belgian champions RSC Anderlecht kept the pressure on league leaders Club Brugge KV with a 3-1 home victory over relegation-threatened KSC Eendracht Aalst.

Mornar opener
Croatian striker Ivica Mornar got the Anderlecht show on the road after just ten minutes when Gilles de Bilde sucked in the entire visiting defence allowing himto score. Damir Stojak put a spanner in the works when he scored a 20th-minute leveller for Eendracht.

Normal service resumed
Normal service was resumed in the final quarter of the game, however, as Walter Baseggio flicked in Yves Vanderhaeghe's pass and Nenad Jestrovic scored from the spot after he was brought down by keeper Jan Verlinden.

Pack fail to close gap
Elsewhere, Sporting Lokeren St-Niklaas Waaslan and R. Standard de Liège thwarted each other's chances of making ground on the leaders as they drew 1-1. Robert Spehar gave visiting Standard the lead after 36 minutes but Arnar Gretarsson salvaged a draw with a 62nd-minute penalty after Rabiu Afolabi fouled Runar Kristinsson.

Win of the day
Seventh-placed R. Excelsior Mouscron are probably too far back to challenge for a UEFA Cup place but they clinched the best win of the day - a 3-0 home victory over K. Sint Truidense VV. Gordan Vidovic scored two goals, one from the penalty spot, either side of a smart Mbo Mpenza finish but it would have been much closer had Desire Mbonabucya and Danny Boffin not both missed penalties for Sint Truidense.

Goal feast
R. Antwerp FC's game with KFC Lommelse SK produced a 3-3 goal feast. Tony Sergeant's flashing volley and Patrick Goots' sliding finish put hosts Antwerp two goals up at the break before Didier Segers' cross-shot and Carl Hoefkens' header squared things up in the second half. Goots restored Antwerp's advantage from the penalty spot with 12 minutes to go but Szolt Baranyos equalised on 87 minutes.

Lierse halt poor run
Finally, relegation candidates K. Lierse SK halted a run of three straight defeats as Werry Sels' equaliser earned them a 1-1 home draw with KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen, while bottom-placed KSK Beveren drew 1-1 with R. Charleroi SC.
