Bulgaria round-up: Levski win in style

PFC Levski Sofia finished the league's first phase in style with a win over PFC Slavia Sofia.

Runaway A PFG leaders PFC Levski Sofia finished the league's first phase in style with a 3-1 win over city rivals PFC Slavia Sofia today.

New rules
Under new rules, after the 26th round, which ended today, the league's 14 teams are separated into two groups. The first group consists of the top six teams who play a round-robin format from 6 April to decide the title. The eight bottom teams form another group who play in a round-robin system to stay in the premier league. The bottom three teams in the second group at the end of the round robin will be relegated and replaced by the top three from the second division. The teams in the two groups will carry forward half of their points total from the first stage of the championship.

Topuzakov double
Back on the pitch, Elin Topuzakov's 15th-minute strike for Levski was cancelled out by Yulian Gunchev's equaliser 20 minutes from the end of the match. But Topuzakov's second and Martin Kushev's injury-time goal completed the victory for the home side. Levski finish ten points ahead of second-placed PFC Liteks Lovech, who beat PFC Spartak Pleven 6-2.

False sense of security
Two goals from Murad Hidiued inside the opening 12 minutes seemed to lull Liteks into a false sense of security, as Todor Kolev pulled Pleven level with goals in the 22nd and 56th minutes. The equaliser stung Liteks into action and they romped home with goals from Hristo Iovov, Nesim Neshadov, Stefan Yurukov and Kiril Nikolov.

Plovdiv come from behind
Third-placed PFC Lokomotiv Plovdiv came from behind to beat PFC Marek 2-1 as Metodi Stoinev and Ivan Paskov cancelled out Amiran Mudzhiri's 26th-minute opener. Lokomotiv Sofia triumphed 1-0 in the second Sofia derby of the day with Emil Gargorov scoring the winner against fourth-placed CSKA Sofia, three minutes from time.

Two for Sakaliev
PFC Neftochimik beat PFC Spartak Varna 4-1 as they booked their place in the championship group. Stoiko Sakaliev scored two while Stanimir Dimitrov and Momchil Zhelev scored one apiece for Nafteks - Iliya Iliev scored a consolation goal for the visitors. In the relegation group, PFC Beroe beat PFC Belasitsa 1-0, while PFC Cherno More swept aside PFC Chernomorets Burgas 3-1.
