Unbeaten Sparta aim to go all the way

Hope is high that AC Sparta Praha – the only top-flight side in Europe yet to lose in 2013/14 – can end the season unbeaten, Bořek Dočkal saying, "We are strong enough to finish the job."

Midfielder Bořek Dočkal is confident AC Sparta Praha can maintain their imperious form and finish the season without defeat after they stretched their unbeaten run to 24 First League matches by winning the Prague derby on Saturday.

Sparta scored three unanswered goals against SK Slavia Praha as they registered their 12th victory in as many 1. Liga home games this term, and with second-placed FC Viktoria Plzeň drawing 1-1 with FC Vysočina Jihlava the next day, ended the weekend ten points clear of the champions.

With six matches remaining it seems only a matter of time before Sparta, the only side in Europe yet to lose a top-flight fixture in 2013/14, seal their first title since 2010 and 36th in all. Doing so with an unblemished record, says Dočkal, is a realistic target for the Czech Cup semi-finalists.

"We can finish the season unbeaten," he told UEFA.com. "I cannot see any reason why we should lose a game. It may happen as there are many factors in any given match, but we have the quality to achieve this. It would be a huge boost for next season if we finish the current one unbeaten."

The 25-year-old Dočkal, who returned to the Czech Republic last summer after three terms in Norway with Rosenborg BK, rounded off the scoring against Slavia, the club where he began his career. The former FC Slovan Liberec player also set a new national best for assists in one season with his 17th of a fruitful campaign as the Reds continued their perfect ways in the capital.

"We know we are the only ones who can spoil it, but I believe we are strong enough to finish the job," he said of Sparta's championship chances. "We have had a great season. When we play at home there is extra support; our opponents know we are confident at Letná. We do not talk about the fact we have won all our home games, but we leave the dressing room with a determination to win."
