Leonardo Biagini is close to leaving RCD Mallorca for England's Portsmouth FC.

Leonardo Biagini is close to leaving RCD Mallorca for Portsmouth FC of the English first division.

Permanent deal possible
The Argentinian forward is in talks with Portsmouth over a loan transfer until the end of the season with the option of a permanent move once the loan expires on 30 June.

Injury problems
Biagini, who was a member of the Mallorca side beaten in the 1999 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final by S.S. Lazio, missed most of last season through injury. He has featured only occasionally in the islanders' first team this term, appearing twice in their UEFA Champions League campaign which ended after the first group stage.

Italian option
The 25-year-old Biagini, who has also played for Club Atlético de Madrid and Mérida SAD in Spain, is believed to have chosen Portsmouth ahead of a move to Italian Serie B side FC Messina 1912.
