Club Atlético de Madrid have finally confirmed that Mexican Javier Aguirre will be their new coach, replacing Pepe Murcia at the Spanish side.
After months of speculation, Club Atlético de Madrid have confirmed Mexican Javier Aguirre as their new coach.
Aguirre has signed a one-season contract with the capital team after leaving CA Osasuna on Friday, having led the Pamplona side to fourth place in the 2005/06 Primera División and qualification for the forthcoming UEFA Champions League third qualifying round.
The 47-year-old former Mexico coach spent four seasons at Osasuna, also guiding the club to a first Copa del Rey final, which they lost 2-1 against Real Betis Balompié in 2004/05. He will succeed Pepe Murcia at Atlético, with Murcia himself having replaced Carlos Bianchi last January.
