LOSC Lille Métropole and Olympique de Marseille enjoyed free-scoring triumphs in the French Cup round of 64 on a day to forget for several of their Ligue 1 rivals.
Joe Cole registered a hat-trick as Lille overwhelmed US Chantilly 6-0, while Jordan Ayew was on target twice for Didier Deschamps's Marseille in a 5-0 defeat of Red Star 93. Dijon FCO also hit five, beating Versailles FC 78 5-1.
It was not all plain sailing for the top-flight sides, however, as FC Sochaux-Montbéliard lost 4-1 at SC Bastia, Stade Brestois 29 succumbed 2-0 to Chamois Niortais FC and FC Lorient were beaten 4-3 by Le Havre AC. SM Caen were humbled at home as they slipped to a 4-2 reverse against ES Troyes Aube Champagne.
Elsewhere, AJ Auxerre struck deep into extra time to eliminate FC Chambly, OGC Nice and AC Ajaccio won comfortably on their travels and Valenciennes FC progressed on Friday night. In the two all Ligue 1 ties, Stade Rennais FC overcame AS Nancy-Lorraine 3-0 and FC Girondins de Bordeaux edged AS Saint-Étienne on penalties.
