Bonnal on the move
The left-sided midfield player has agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract and the transfer sees Monaco's Nicolas Bonnal move in the opposite direction. Rothen agreed personal terms in a move that was subject to a medical after he suffered a serious knee injury a year ago.
The 23-year-old was in only his second season at Troyes having joined from second division AS Cannes before the 2000/01 campaign, which saw the highly rated player score four goals in 30 matches. He has yet to win international recognition for France but many feel it is only a matter of time.
Previous speculation had linked Rothen with a move to French champions FC Nantes Atlantique and he also had many admirers in England. Rothen impressed for Troyes in their UEFA Intertoto Cup tie against Newcastle United FC and in the UEFA Cup against Leeds United AFC.
