FC Dila Gori sprung a surprise by beating Georgian league winners FC Zestafoni 4-1 to win their first Georgian Cup.
Dila finished seventh in the league with less than half the points total of Zestafoni, but they showed their class against the champions, who ended the game with nine men. Such a result seemed far from likely after 14 minutes, as Zestafoni took the lead through Tornike Aptsiauri.
Gocha Khodzhava squared things up from the penalty spot 15 minutes later after Teimuraz Gongadze's foul – an infrigement that ensured he received his marching orders. Salt was then poured on Zestafoni's wounds four minutes into the second half when Mate Vatsadze headed in after Khodzhava's corner to give the underdogs a 2-1 lead.
Georgia Under-21 international Giorgi Iluridze doubled the advantage, before Dzhaba Dvali became the second Zestafoni player to be sent off. Life became much easier for Dila, and Aleksandr Intskirveli put the icing on the cake with their fourth goal in added time.
