Panathinaikos FC secured their fifth straight win on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat of OFI Crete.

Panathinaikos FC secured their fifth straight win on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat of OFI Crete in Iraklion.

Decisive goal
Greek international Giorgios Karagounis scored the only goal of the game after 79 minutes, latching on to a through-ball from Krzystof Warzycha before sprinting through the OFI defence and coolly slotting home.

Near miss for Karagounis
Karagounis came close to opening his account after an hour of the game when his free-kick rattled the crossbar, but at full time his goal was enough to give Panathinaikos their fifth successive win.

Warzycha milestone
The game was a milestone one for Warzycha. The Polish player made a record 357th appearance for Panathinaikos – the most by any foreign player in the Hellenic National League.

'An important and difficult game'
