Sopron coach dies after attack

Tibor Simon, the coach of MFC Sopron, has died in hospital after being attacked.

Underwent operations
The 37-year-old former Hungary international had several blood clots removed from his brain after being admitted to the Szent Janos hospital on Sunday night but slipped into a coma. He failed to recover and died in his sleep last night.

Attacked outside nightclub
According to reports, Simon was attacked by a group of assailants with baseball bats outside a nightclub in Budapest where he had been celebrating a friend's birthday after his team's 1-0 defeat by Kispest Honvéd FC.

Great servant for Ferencvárosi
Simon featured in Ferencvárosi TC's defence for 13 years, appeared in the UEFA Champions League in 1995 and was capped 16 times by Hungary between 1989 and 1995. After retirement, he coached at second division teams Budapesti VSC and REAC before joining Sopron last autumn.
