A 2-1 home win enabled Debreceni VSC to complete a stunning 9-1 aggregate victory over Budapest Honvéd FC to lift the Hungarian Cup for the third time.
Debreceni VSC completed a handsome aggregate victory over Budapest Honvéd FC to lift the Hungarian Cup. They followed up last week's surprising 7-0 win at the Bozsik Stadion with a 2-1 home win to secure a 9-1 success overall.
Debrecen went behind in the first half but then the three-times 1. Liga champions fought back. It is the third time they have won the cup, adding to their triumphs in 1999 and 2001. As András Herczeg's team were also runners-up in the league behind MTK Budapest it means that third-placed Győri ETO FC will join Debrecen in the UEFA Cup first qualifying round. Honvéd will take part in next season's UEFA Intertoto Cup.
