Former Yugoslavian international Zlatko Krmpotic has quit as coach of Kazakh side FC Kairat Almaty in controversial circumstances.
Kairat are involved in a battle to avoid relegation after a dreadful season, and will have to do so without Krmpotic after he walked out on the club some three months before his contract was due to end. However, the departure of Krpmotic, a one-time FK Crvena Zvezda player, may not be the end of the matter following allegations made by some Kairat players that he was involved in suspicious financial dealings.
Tlekbek Akpayev, first vice-president of the Kazakhstan Football Union (FSK), said it was looking into the matter: "We are not turning to law enforcement institutions, because this is against UEFA or FIFA tradition, however we are considering presenting the case before the sporting authorities."
