FK Skendija 79 are celebrating winning the first edition of the Macedonian Super Cup after seeing off FK Metalurg Skopje 2-1 at the National Arena Filip II Macedonian.

The victory earned the Tetovo side only their second ever trophy, the first having come when they secured their maiden Macedonian First League crown in May. Osmani Catip's men made the perfect start in Skopje when captain Nebi Mustafi fired a sixth-minute penalty following a foul on Ersan Sali by Goran Dragović, and they doubled their lead six minutes from time when Sali profited from Ardian Cuculi's pass. Ljubomir Stevanović's superb late free-kick proved a mere consolation for Macedonian Cup holders Metalurg.

"I would like to congratulate my players for today's deserved victory," Osmani told UEFA.com. "I am really happy that we've won the Super Cup, especially since we've become the first side to lift this trophy and also since it comes shortly after our major success of winning the Macedonian championship."

Already eliminated from European competition, both Skendija and Metalurg can now concentrate on the new league season in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, which begins next weekend. Skendija lost out to FK Partizan in the UEFA Champions league second qualifying round and Metalurg were defeated by FK Lokomotiv Sofia at the same stage of the UEFA European League. "A new league season lies ahead and we are well prepared for more success," added Osmani. "I hope we will eventually succeed in defending the title."
