Sliema Wanderers FC stalwart Kristian Laferla has been honoured for 500 domestic appearances.
Afterwards Laferla admitted to feelings of high emotion. The defender, who was given a special presentation by club president Robert Arrigo, told uefa.com: "This is not a feat that comes by every day. I won't forget this day easily. Football has changed my life in all aspects. The thrill of winning so many titles and trophies at club level, playing for the national team and making so many friends in the game."
After making his debut in 1983, Laferla, 37, went on to establish himself as one of the leading figures of Maltese football. He had 18 years with Valletta FC – helping them to a record six trophies in the 2000/01 season - before moving on to Sliema in January last year, immediately helping them to their second consecutive Premier League title.
