SC Braga have appointed Jesualdo Ferreira as Fernando Castro Santos's replacement as coach.
SC Braga have chosen Jesualdo Ferreira to replace Fernando Castro Santos at the helm of the club, following the Spaniard's suspension and subsequent sacking.
Dismissed by Benfica
For Jesualdo Ferreira, the appointment marks his return to senior coaching after his dismissal by SL Benfica in November following their Portuguese Cup defeat by third division SC Gondomar. The new coach watched his side's 2-2 draw at SC Beira-Mar at the weekend but only this morning started to work with the team.
Experienced youth coach
Braga, who are 12th in the Portuguese Super Liga, opted for Ferreira after also considering the merits of Carlos Carvalhal and Nelo Vingada, former coaches of Leixões SC and CS Marítimo. He is an experienced coach whom the club trust to bring through young talent into the first team. Even after his dismissal as first-team coach at Benfica, Ferreira had still been working as coordinator of the club's B team and youth scheme.
