Bokila strikes as Petrolul win Romanian Cup

Jeremy Bokila's eighth-minute strike proved sufficient to steer FC Petrolul Ploiești to their third Romanian Cup and first since 1995 at the expense of CFR 1907 Cluj.

Forward Jeremy Bokila scored the only goal of Saturday's Romanian Cup final as FC Petrolul Ploiești got the better of CFR 1907 Cluj.

The showpiece was just eight minutes old when Bokila capitalised on a defensive mistake and found the net with an ice-cool finish from close range. A hard-fought contest ensued with both teams trading blows in their first cup meeting. Robert Maah came agonisingly close to drawing CFR level before Petrolul midfielder Gualberto Mojica rattled the crossbar.

With the clock ticking down, CFR captain Ricardo Cadu was centimetres away from conjuring a dramatic equaliser but that was as good as it got for the 2012 champions. Petrolul, meanwhile, can look forward to playing in the UEFA Europa League next season – a just reward for their entertaining brand of football, coupled with an impressive third-place finish in the league.
