IFK Göteborg coach Bo Johansson has made Västra Frölunda IF's Hans Blomqvist his first signing.
The new IFK Göteborg coach, Bo Johansson, has signed skilful midfield player Hans Blomqvist from Västra Frölunda IF on a two-year contract subject to a medical.
The 27-year old was tipped for a bright future with the Swedish national team after being named the rookie of the year in 1998, but a groin injury sustained the following year kept him out for the majority of the subsequent three years.
Blomqvist returned in the second half of the 2002 season and immediately proved that he had lost little of his old magic, if a touch of pace. His signing signals that the veteran former Denmark coach Johansson is determined to bring inventive football back to the Gamla Ullevi stadium.
Director of sports Roger Gustafsson enthused about Blomqvist's arrival, saying: "Hasse is a very skilful player and everyone who has seen him play knows exactly what an artist he is. We are very pleased that he has chosen us ahead of a host of other clubs."
