Former Turkish international Bülent Korkmaz, fired by Bursaspor last week, has taken over as Gençlerbirliği SK coach following the sacking of Reinhard Stumpf.
Gençlerbirligi SK have appointed former Bursaspor coach Bülent Korkmaz following the sacking of Reinhard Stumpf.
Bülent, 38, was capped more than 100 times by Turkey in a distinguished career as a Galatasaray AS defender, most famously playing on with a dislocated shoulder in the 2000 UEFA Cup final defeat of Arsenal FC. An assistant to Mesut Bakkal at Gençlerbirliği in 2005, he took his first head coach role with Kayseri Erciyesspor in January before joining Bursaspor in June – an association that lasted just nine games before he was fired last week.
Mehmet Kulaksızoğlu, Cengiz Demirel, Taner Alpak, Utku Yörükoğlu and Salih Sayar will form Bülent's new coaching staff at Gençlerbirliği, who lie one place above Bursaspor in 15th in the 18-club Süper Lig.
