FC Shakhtar Donetsk have stepped up their search for a new coach.
FC Shakhtar Donetsk have stepped up their search for a new coach with Englishman Roy Hodgson said to be top of their list.
Out of the running
The Ukrainian side are prepared to offer the successful candidate more than €1.5m for leading them until the end of the season. Italian Nevio Scala and Romanian Mircea Lucescu have previously been linked with the job but are believed to have ruled themselves out of the running.
Former Switzerland coach
Hodgson, who has also coached the Swiss national team, Internazionale FC and Blackburn Rovers FC, left Udinese Calcio by "mutual consent" in December. He had said he fancied a move back to England but his thoughts on Shakhtar's possible interest are not yet known.
Second in table
Shakhtar, who are second in the Ukranian Premier League behind leaders FC Dynamo Kyiv on goal difference, are eager to get a new coach in place as soon as possible. Their winter training camp has already begun, and is being led by caretaker coach Valeriy Jaremchenko.
