FC Shakhtar Donetsk have signed highly-regarded Bolivian striking starlet Marcelo Moreno Martins from Brazilian side Cruzeiro EC in a deal worth €9m.

The 20-year-old has caught the eye of a number of European teams since making his debut for EC Vitória in Brazil in 2005, and after visiting Shakhtar's training facilities and undergoing a medical he has opted for a five-year contract with the Ukrainian champions. He struck 43 goals in 68 league appearances in his native South America for Vitória and Cruzeiro, whom he joined last summer, and he will link up with his new team-mates at Shakhtar following FIFA World Cup 2010 qualifiers against Chile and Paraguay in June. The son of a Bolivian mother and Brazilian father, Marcelo Moreno has opted to play for his motherland.
Meanwhile, Shakhtar have paid FC Vorskla Poltava €1.1m for Under-21 defender Oleksandr Chyzhov, with Denis Kulakov going in the opposite direction. Chyzhov has penned a five-year contract.
