• Guðni Bergsson was elected as president of the Icelandic Football Association (KSÍ) in February 2017. He has been involved in football throughout his life, coming up through the youth ranks at Valur. Having played there for several years, Bergsson was sold to Tottenham Hotspur, where he stayed for six further years. He then moved to Bolton Wanderers, where he became a key player and captain.

• Bergsson was a regular for Iceland at international level, earning 80 caps as a solid defender and scoring one goal. After hanging up his boots, Bergsson has worked as a lawyer, while remaining active on the football scene in Iceland.

• “I’m honoured to be elected as the president of the Football Association of Iceland,” he said on his election. “We have shown that with dedication, passion and team spirit, anything is possible in football.”
