Gabriel “Gavri” Levi, president of the Israel Football Association (IFA) from 1996 to 2003, has passed away at the age of 80.

Former Israel Football Association (IFA) president Gabriel “Gavri” Levi has passed away at the age of 80.

Levi started his football career as chairman of his home town team Hapoel Petah Tikva FC in 1989

He took over at the helm of the IFA on 1996, and served as president until 2003, leading far-reaching changes in Israel’s football which brought about the establishment of a new league structure and formation of the Israeli Premier League.

Levi was also a leading choreographer and producer. Among his three children is former Israeli Under-21 national team coach Guy Levi.
