Albania round-up: Frashëri takes his leave

SK Tirana coach Fatmir Frashëri will not be extending his contract despite leading the club to their 20th title.

The final round of league games in Albania were overshadowed by the news that SK Tirana coach Fatmir Frashëri will not be extending his contract despite leading the club to their 20th Albanian league title.

Offer not accepted
Frashëri, a former Tirana player, took charge of the club last December and subsequently succeeded in leading them to their first title since 2000. However he has not accepted the offer made by president Metwally Abdelrrahman El Sayed to continue in the post.

Dream come true
"I have won a lot of titles with Tirana as a player and I wanted another one as a coach," said the 62-year-old. "Now this dream has come true and I [will] go. My age is also one of the reasons." Frashëri has won the title four times with Tirana in all, as well as also winning it twice with KF Partizani.

Coaches ask for more time
Ramadan Shehu of KS Vllaznia and Sokol Kushta of KS Elbasani may also have led their clubs for the last time. Both coaches have asked for more time before giving an answer to their respective presidents about whether they will be continuing in their posts.

Relegation play-off
Meanwhile, back on the pitch all five relegation-threatened teams won their matches on Saturday leaving KF Lushnja and KS Apolonia to face each other on Wednesday to decide which club will follow KF Erzeni, KS Bylis and KS Besëlidhja into Group A2 of the Albanian first league.

Apolonia leave it late
Lushnja won 2-0 at home against last season's champions KS Dinamo Tirana while Apolonia left it until the last minute of injury time to score the winner against Vllaznia in a 3-2 win and ensure a play-off against Lushnja.

Besa secure safety
Meanwhile, KS Besa secured their safety with a 5-4 win away at Partizani. KS Flamurtari also stayed up with a win at KS Besëlidhja, while Elbasani defeated champions Tirana 2-1, with two goals from Dorian Bylykbashi. KS Teuta defeated Shkumbini Peqin 2-1, while already relegated pair Bylis and Erzeni drew 1-1 as they bowed out of the top-flight.
