Originally scheduled for last December, FC Zestafoni made up for lost time by clinching the 2011 Georgian Super Cup at the expense of FC Gagra.
Three days after suffering a 4-1 defeat by FC Dila Gori in the Georgian Cup final, Zestafoni had little time to put their disappointment behind them. An ominous tone was subsequently set when relegated Gagra took the lead after six minutes courtesy of John Jeremiah's solo run and finish.
Giorgi Chiabrishvili's side responded in fine fashion, however, and restored parity 18 minutes later through Vakhtang Chanturashvili. Rati Tsinamdzgvrishvili then put his side in the ascendancy from the penalty spot soon after the break. Abayomi Owonikoko Seun made sure of victory on 68 minutes following an incisive pass from substitute Saba Lomia.
"Zestafoni have never won the Super Cup before, and we were champions again this season, so overall I am very happy," said coach Chiabrishvili. "Of course we wanted to win all three domestic trophies before this season, but the Georgian Cup evaded us."
