Brescia braced for Adani absence

News round-up: Brescia Calcio defender Daniele Adani is out for three months with knee ligament damage.

Brescia Calcio defender Daniele Adani will be out of action for at least three months after suffering ligament damage in his left knee during yesterday's 2-0 Serie A defeat by S.S. Lazio. Capped five times by Italy, the 30-year-old Adani returned to Brescia in the summer after a five-year period spent at ACF Fiorentina and FC Internazionale Milano.

Bologna FC forwards Claudio Bellucci and Giacomo Cipriani have both renewed their contracts until 2007. Bellucci, 29, is currently in his fourth season at Bologna while Cipriani, 23, has just returned to the Dall'Ara stadium after loan spells with Piacenza FC and UC Sampdoria.

Fresh from defeating AS Roma and AC Milan, FC Messina Peloro have signed Greek midfield player Panagiotis Gonias on a free transfer from Olympiacos CFP. The 32-year-old playmaker, who joined Olympiacos from Iraklis FC in 2003, has signed a one-year contract with the Sicilian side.

UD Leiria stiker Geufer faces several weeks on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in last night's 1-1 draw with FC Porto. The 24-year-old Brazilian was taken off the pitch just minutes into the SuperLiga fixture with a suspected left ankle fracture.

Elsewhere in Portugal, Vitória SC captain Hélio is to undergo surgery on his right knee to remedy an injury he suffered in training. His club welcome Porto to Guimaraes on Saturday, and the visitors could be without Greek international right-back Giourkas Seitaridis, who complained of muscle problems after the game with Leiria.

Former England Under-21 striker Michael Bridges has rejoined his former club Sunderland AFC after being released by Bolton Wanderers FC. The 26-year-old, who left Sunderland for Leeds United AFC in 1999, has since been plagued by injury and this summer switched from Elland Road to Bolton, but did not make an appearance for the Premiership side and has moved down a division on a contract until the end of the season with the option for a further 12 months.
