He was the first head of Belarus’s main football organisation immediately after its foundation in November 1989, and held the position of FA president for ten years.
During Mr Shuntov’s time in office, the country’s independent football development began after the break-up of the USSR.
The ABFF became a member of football’s world body FIFA on 3 July 1992, and joined UEFA on 20 June 1993, with its national team taking part in world and European qualifying competitions for the first time.
In later years, Evgeni Shuntov continued to work for the benefit of Belarusian football, heading the ABFF’s football arbitration activities and acting as the association’s delegate at the most important national club competition matches.
