Belgium round-up: Anderlecht keep up with leaders

RSC Anderlecht kept up the pace with the leaders in Belgium with a 2-0 victory on Saturday.

RSC Anderlecht kept up the pace with leaders Club Brugge KV and second-placed KRC Genk with a 2-0 victory over KFC Lommelse SK.

Anderlecht triumphant
Anderlecht are now only three points off top spot after Saturday's win. Gilles de Bilde made the early breakthrough after 13 minutes with a curling free-kick and Lommel's cause was not helped when Didier Segers was sent off three minutes before the break. The points were wrapped up just past the hour when Alin Stoica struck Anderlecht's second.

Mouscron win away
R. Excelsior Mouscron remain in contention for a UEFA Cup place after a 2-0 win of their own at KVC Westerlo. Steve Dugardein made the most of some good work by Belgian international Mbo Mpenza to open the scoring after 84 minutes and, before the hosts had regained their composure, Marcin Zewlakow doubled the lead.

More misery for strugglers
At the wrong end of the table, KSC Eendracht Aalst and KSK Beveren both suffered 3-1 defeats, against K. Lierse SK and RWD Molenbeek respectively.

Late rush sinks Aalst
Aalst held Lierse for 73 minutes before finally succumbing when Werry Sels played in Stein Huysegems to score. Archie Thompson added a second three minutes later and after Damir Stojak had pulled a goal back from the penalty spot two minutes from the end, Sels converted Thompson's pass for the third.

Beveren crumble
Beveren never looked like troubling Molenbeek and were two goals down inside the first 16 minutes. Mike Origi scored after seven minutes and after Ricardo Magro added a second nine minutes later the result was never in any real doubt. Tomas Danilevicius pulled one back for the hosts on the hour but as Beveren pressed for an equaliser, Mitu helped himself to the third in the closing moments.

No luck for Lokeren
Finally, Desire Mbonabucya scored the only goal of the game as K. Sint Truidense VV beat Sporting Lokeren St-Niklaas Waasland 1-0.
