Barcelona and Napoli ease into cup finals

FC Barcelona set up a Copa del Rey final meeting with rivals Real Madrid CF thanks to a 1-1 draw at Real Sociedad de Fútbol. Barcelona led 2-0 after the first leg and effectively ended the tie after 27 minutes when Lionel Messi ran half the length of the pitch before his low drive squirmed past goalkeeper Eñaut Zubikarai.

The hosts nearly breathed life into the contest when Carlos Vela's curling effort struck a post from distance, but Gerardo Martino's men always appeared in control without managing to increase their advantage. Antoine Griezmann swept in Chori Castro's late cross to level, but the Blaugrana were already assured of a place in the 19 April showpiece.  

Coppa Italia
With Diego Maradona watching from the Stadio San Paolo stands, SSC Napoli overturned a first-leg deficit against AS Roma to reach the final for the second time in three seasons. Trailing 3-2 on aggregate, the Partenopei took the lead on away goals when José Callejón (33) headed in Christian Maggio's cross.

Two goals in three minutes at the beginning of the second period ensured Napoli will participate in their ninth domestic showpiece. Gonzalo Higuaín doubled the 2012 winners' advantage on the night after a corner had been flicked on at the near post, a strike swiftly added to by January arrival Jorginho's first for the club. Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman was dismissed 11 minutes from time. Napoli will face ACF Fiorentina in the final.

German Cup
Second-tier 1. FC Kaiserslautern progressed to the semi-finals along with VfL Wolfsburg and FC Bayern München. Kaiserslautern prevailed 1-0 at Bayer 04 Leverkusen thanks to Ruben Yttergård Jenssen's 114th-minute goal, Mohammadou Idrissou having missed a penalty for the visitors in the first period of extra time.

Holders Bayern, meanwhile, will host Kaiserslautern in the last four after cantering to a 5-0 victory over Hamburger SV in which Mario Mandžukić scored a hat-trick and Dante and Arjen Robben also found the net. Bastian Schweinsteiger, out since undergoing ankle surgery in November, made his return as a 65th-minute substitute.

Ricardo Rodríguez scored twice from the spot but was also sent off as Wolfsburg edged TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 3-2. The Swiss international's first-half goals sandwiched an equaliser from Roberto Firmino, who reduced the hosts' arrears late on after Bas Dost had given Dieter Hecking's men a two-goal cushion before Rodríguez saw red. Wolfsburg meet Borussia Dortmund in the next round.

Coupe de France
Dimitar Berbatov struck five minutes from the end of extra time to edge AS Monaco FC past OGC Nice in the round of 16. The home side competed manfully after Timothée Kolodziejczak was dismissed shortly after half-time, but their resilience finally ended when the forward claimed his first goal for the club following his switch from Fulham FC last month.

Fourth-tier FAIRM Île-Rousse Monticello, conquerors of FC Girondins de Bordeaux in the last round, could not repeat their giant-killing feat as goals in either half from Grégory Cerdan and Moustapha Diallo gave visitors EA Guingamp a 2-0 victory. Second division AJ Auxerre were also unable to claim a Ligue 1 scalp as they succumbed at home to Stade Rennais FC courtesy of Foued Kadir's first-half strike.
