News round-up: Former England striker Les Ferdinand has signed a one-year deal with Bolton Wanderers FC.

Former England striker Les Ferdinand has signed a one-year deal with Bolton Wanderers FC.

Premiership dreams
The 37-year-old centre-forward decided to remain in the English Premiership rather than accept a new deal with relegated Leicester City FC, for whom he scored 13 goals last season. After starting his league career at Queen's Park Rangers FC, Ferdinand has had spells at Newcastle United FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC, West Ham United FC and Besiktas JK in Turkey.

Eagles call
Hungarian international Gabor Kiraly has joined English side Crystal Palace FC on a free transfer. The 28-year-old goalkeeper will move from Bundesliga outfit Hertha BSC Berlin after agreeing a three-year-contract. The goalkeeper played 198 Bundesliga matches for Hertha during seven seasons with the club, but lost his place to Christian Fiedler last season.

Kovacs switch
Kiraly's Hungarian international team-mate Peter Kovacs has joined Norwegian Tippeligaen strugglers Viking FK from league leaders Tromsø IL. The 26-year-old striker could make his debut against second-placed side Lillestrøm SK on 25 July. "Kovacs is just the type of player we need to move up the league table," Viking director Bjarne Berntsen said.

Sanne moves
Viking have also sold midfield player Tom Sanne to fellow Tippeligaen side SK Brann for a nominal fee. The 29-year-old has been at the Stavanger for six seasons.

Matellan heads home
FC Schalke 04 have released Anibal Matellan. The defender had been tied to the club for another season, but asked to have his contract cancelled so he can return home to Argentina. The 27-year-old joined Schalke from CA Boca Juniors in 2001 but has failed to find his form with the 1997 UEFA Cup winners.

Korell out again
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach will be without centre-half Steffen Korell for three months after the 32-year-old suffered knee ligament damage in a friendly on Sunday. The defender had only just returned from a knee cartilage injury which sidelined him for the whole of last season.
