Yerlan Kozhagapanov has been elected as the new Football Federation of Kazakhstan (KFF) president for a four-year term at the association's XXI extraordinary conference in Astana.

He succeeds Adilbek Jaxybekov, who was at the helm of the association for seven years. Mr Jaxybekov asked the KFF executive committee to relieve him of his duties after he was appointed as mayor of the city of Astana.

A former head of the Kazakhstan agency for sports and tourism, Mr Kozhagapanov was elected unanimously until 23 December 2018. "My predecessors did a great job of promoting and developing football in Kazakhstan," the 46-year-old said. "Our task is to continue this work. I see our plans as the further development of youth football, and strengthening the role of the Kazakhstan championship, as well as the fight against match-fixing."
