Westerveld right for Mallorca

RCD Mallorca have signed Dutch international goalkeeper Sander Westerveld from Real Sociedad de Fútbol.

Transfer option
The Balearic club have agreed to take over 70 per cent of Westerveld's contract, which expires next summer. If Mallorca then decide to sign the 29-year-old they will pay a nominal fee to Real.

Impressive performer
Westerveld, a UEFA Cup winner with Liverpool FC, was a mainstay of the Real team that finished second to Real Madrid CF in the Spanish title race in 2002/03 and last season made six UEFA Champions League appearances. He was also in the Netherlands squad at UEFA EURO 2004™.

In other business, Mallorca have loaned defender Domingo Nagore to RC Celta de Vigo for a year, while Dutch striker Arnold Bruggink and defender Mario Álvarez have been released from their contracts. The latter player, part-owned by FC Barcelona, has rejoined Real Valladolid where he played from 2001-03.
