Event sustainability

Sustainability is an integral part of how we organise our competition finals and final tournaments.

Our commitment to event sustainability is like a football match, with two contrasting, but complementary halves. On the one side, we want to prevent or reduce the negative impact of our competition finals and tournaments. On the other, we want to leave a positive social and governance legacy for host communities and surrounding communities.

Our ESG strategy

To achieve this goal, since 2022/23, we apply an environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy to all UEFA finals and final tournaments. It makes sustainability an integral part of their design, planning and implementation. In parallel, our ESG management system benchmarks and tracks each event's impact.

After piloting the system at our four elite club competition finals in spring 2023, we plan a full deployment at UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany. We are also encouraging football event organisers across national associations, leagues and clubs to follow in our footsteps.

3 x 11 Actions for Respect

To ensure our events prioritise the protection of children and respect for fans and the environment, we have created visual guidelines listing 11 simple actions that staff, volunteers and partners working on site can follow.
