Monthly review: Two African arrivals may fuel FC Sheriff's charge for the Moldovan title.

By Miron Goihman

Two new arrivals from Africa may help fuel FC Sheriff's charge for the Moldovan title in the spring.

African signings
Ghanaian 18-year-old Samuel Yeboah has joined the champions from Heart of Lions FC while 21-year-old Burkina Faso international Sumaila Tassembedo, who previously played for Ouagadougou side Etoile Filante, has also signed a contract at Sheriff, although the details of their deals have not been released.

Commonwealth Cup
Sheriff went into the winter break ten points clear of second-placed FC Nistru Otaci. They return to action after the winter break earlier than all of their Moldovan rivals as they head to Moscow to compete in the Commonwealth Cup – the tournament for the champions of all the former Soviet republics – in January.

Zimbru striker
Third-placed CSF Zimbru Chisinau are keen to raise their game in the second half of the campaign, and have signed one of Armenian football's top goalscorers in Galust Petrosyan. With most of the current Zimbru squad on the transfer list, more signings are expected before the league campaign resumes.

Dacia disappointed
The board at fourth-placed FC Dacia Chisinau were unhappy at the team's league placing at the winter break and are also planning major changes. Strikers Serghey Cuico and Eduard Tamascov, who failed to impress in autumn, have both been transfer listed and the club are keen to sign replacement forwards.

Tiraspol clear-out
Finally, FC Tiraspol are also ringing the changes with seven of the eleven players in their starting lineup having been made available for transfer. In addition, the club have dispensed with coach Victor Barisev.
