Heavy fine for Fenerbahçe

Fenerbahçe SK have been fined CHF 50,000 by UEFA following crowd disturbances against Feyenoord.

Turkish club Fenerbahçe SK have been fined CHF 50,000 by UEFA following crowd disturbances at their recent UEFA Champions League match against Feyenoord.

Missiles and fireworks
The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body heard that Turkish supporters threw missiles and fireworks during the third qualifying round second-leg match at the Sükrü Saraçoglu Stadium in Istanbul on 27 August. Feyenoord won the match 2-0 to advance to the UEFA Champions League first group stage on a 3-0 aggregate scoreline.

Match delays
The hearing was told that there was a delay to the start of both halves, and that the match had to be halted at one stage to clear the pitch of objects.

Player incident case closed
Meanwhile, the Control and Disciplinary Body decided to close disciplinary investigations into Fenerbahçe player Miroslav Stevic and Feyenoord opponent Bonaventure Kalou, in the wake of an incident between the two players in the first leg in Rotterdam on 13 August, which Feyenoord won 1-0.

Referee’s factual decision
A UEFA statement said: "Even though the video footage of the incident clearly showed the assault and provocation of the players, the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body decided to stop the proceedings as the referee had seen the situation and therefore took a factual decision that cannot be changed or overruled by the disciplinary entity."

Levski complaint rejected
The UEFA body rejected a complaint by Bulgarian club PFC Levski Sofia, who had argued that Ukrainian opponents FC Dynamo Kyiv fielded an unregistered player in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round second-leg match between the two sides on 28 August.

Proper registration
The UEFA administration confirmed that the player in question had been registered in accordance with UEFA competition directives.
