Off the crossbar and in
Guimarães appeared to have won the points after Yugoslavian midfield player Ivan Djurdjevic fired a 57th-minute free-kick in off the underside of the crossbar.
Marcelo on target
Coimbra, who had earned just one point from their first four matches, had surprised the away team by taking a fifth-minute lead through the former Birmingham City FC and Sheffield United FC forward Marcelo.

But Guimarães stormed back to level shortly after when Pedro Mendes tapped in after Académica goalkeeper Pedro Roma had fumbled a cross.
