Negouai sets the Standard in Belgium

European round-up: R. Standard de Liège and FC Porto have taken control of their respective title races, while Olympiacos CFP are a point from glory.

R. Standard de Liège have taken a one-point lead in the Belgian title race, while in Portugal, FC Porto's advantage is now five points. Meanwhile, Olympiacos CFP are just a point away from yet another Greek championship, and in Scotland Celtic FC are already home and dry.

R. Standard de Liège took top spot in Belgium from RSC Anderlecht, helped along by the fastest goal in league history. Christian Negouai scored against KVC Westerlo after just eleven seconds, before Milan Rapaic rounded off a 2-0 win. Anderlecht were held 1-1 by R. Charleroi SC, and slip a point behind Standard with four games to play. Club Brugge KV won their first match under coach Emilio Ferrera, coming from behind to defeat SV Zulte-Waregem 2-1 with goals from Ibrahim Salou and Gert Verheyen. KSK Beveren won an important relegation battle 1-0 against RAA Louvièroise, moving them to 16th position and at least temporary safety.

Porto punish Sporting

Newly-crowned Premier League champions Celtic FC underlined their status as Scotland's elite team with a 4-1 win against Kilmarnock FC. Two goals from Japanese international Shunsuke Nakamura and one each from John Hartson and Dion Dublin sealed victory, and restored a 20-point lead over Heart of Midlothian FC. Hearts stay three points clear of third-placed Rangers FC after the two beat Dunfermline Athletic FC and Motherwell FC respectively. Aberdeen defeated Hibernian FC 1-0, while bottom club Livingston FC won 2-1 against Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC 2-1 and Falkirk FC beat Dundee United FC 1-0.

Fenerbahçe maintain pace
Fenerbahçe SK returned to the top of the Turkish Superleague after a 3-0 win against Sivasspor. The defending champions are level on points with Galatasaray SK, who had enjoyed two days at the top after their 3-1 win at Diyarbakirspor on Friday. There are five games to play, and the title may be decided when Galatasaray visit Fenerbahçe on 22 April. Gençlerbirliği SK moved into a share of third with Beşiktaş JK after they defeated Trabzonspor 1-0 and Beşiktaş drew 2-2 at home to relegation-threatened Malatyaspor. There were also weekend wins for Ankaraspor A.S., MKE Ankaragücü and Rizespor.
