Konstantinou stands down

Cypriot title contenders Anorthosis Famagusta FC are to lose influential chairman Kikis Konstantinou.

Rise to prominence
Konstantinou, the force behind Anorthosis's rise to prominence in the 1990s, has said that he will not stand for re-election on Thursday, when the club votes for a new chairman.

Period of success
His 13-year tenure coincided with an era of unprecedented success for the refugee club. Anorthosis were champions five times between 1995 and 2000. Konstantinou also funded the rebuilding of the Antonis Papadopoulos stadium in Larnaca, where the team have been based following their expulsion from Turkish-occupied Famagusta.

Derby defeat
Anorthosis are fourth in the Cypriot first division after the weekend derby defeat by leaders APOEL Nicosia FC.
