Premiership strugglers West Bromwich Albion FC have been dealt a major blow after losing key defender Darren Moore for up to nine months.

Accidental collision
The 28-year-old damaged the anterior cruciate and medial ligaments in his right knee during Sunday's 2-0 defeat by Chelsea FC at the Hawthorns. Moore was hurt during an accidental collision with visiting striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink but had to wait for a scan on Monday to reveal the full extent of his injury.

Relegation fight
Moore was a major influence in West Brom achieving promotion to the top flight last season and has played all but one of their 30 league games this campaign. The club are second bottom with 21 points, eight adrift from safety.

Megson downbeat
"Darren's season is over," West Brom manager Gary Megson told the club's official website. "It is a massive blow for us. He will be out for a long time. The initial prognosis is that he will be out for six to nine months but there is no blame attached to anyone. It was just one of those things."
