Club Brugge KV consolidated their lead at the top of the Jupiler League with a 3-2 victory over KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen on Sunday.
Mendoza on the mark
The pacesetters were ahead as early as the seventh minute when Gert Verheyen floated over a cross for Peruvian striker Ándres Mendoza to chest down and slot home.
Brugge were also quick out of the blocks in the second half, doubling their lead through Gaëten Englebert just 40 seconds after the restart.
Kpaka hits back
But Germinal hit back just two minutes later to give themselves a route back into the match when Paul Kpaka headed home.
Gert Verheyen restored the two-goal advantage 12 minutes from time but Kpaka's splendid 35-yard volley made Brugge sweat before the final whistle.
Meanwhile, R. Standard Liège's title challenge was dented by a dour goalless draw at R. Antwerp FC, who had Maboula Ali Lukunku sent off eight minutes from time.
