Bulgaria round-up: Levski march to glory

A 2-1 win on Saturday saw PFC Levski Sofia take a step closer to a third consecutive A PFG title.

PFC Levski Sofia took a step closer to a third consecutive A PFG title on Saturday.

More joy for Levski
Goals from Peter Kabat and Georgi Ivanov handed the capital club their 19th win in 25 matches as they beat PFC Chernomorets Burgas 2-1 to move 13 points clear of city rivals PFC CSKA Sofia, who take on PFC Neftochimik tomorrow. Kabat opened the scoring in the 49th minute and Ivanov doubled the lead with 18 minutes remaining. Mario Metushev grabbed a late consolation for the home side with just five minutes left on the clock.

Lone goal boosts Litex
PFC Litex Lovech moved second after edging lowly PFC Marek 1-0 in Dupnitsa. Stefan Yurukov scored the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute.

Match postponed
PFC Lokomotiv Plovdiv could have moved up to third if they had picked up three points, but their match at PFC Spartak Varna was abandoned after eight minutes due to a waterlogged pitch. The game is now scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

Beroe go down again
Basement club PFC Beroe are all but doomed after slipping to yet another defeat, 3-2 at PFC Slavia Sofia, for whom the victory secures a place in the championship group. The home side went 2-0 up thanks to goals from Velimir Ivanovich (20) and Veselin Vachev (60). A Vanyo Shishkov double in the final ten minutes pulled the visitors level only for Ivanovich to net a last-minute winner.

Belasitsa triumph
PFC Beroe have won only two matches all season and are stranded at the foot of the table 12 points adrift of nearest side PFC Belasitsa, who picked up a 2-1 win at home to PFC Lokomotiv Sofia. In the day's remaining fixture PFC Spartak Pleven defeated PFC Cherno More 3-1 in Pleven.
